It has been quite a fruitful month for reading – apparently holidays and being ‘funemployed’ are the answer to the staggeringly impressive reading paces I’ve admired on Bookstagram.
It’s been rather a balanced month in terms of fiction and non-fiction too. Three of each. A good habit to stick to this year I think. And here’s something I haven’t been able to say in a while – I would wholeheartedly recommend each and evey one of them. What a month. National Poetry Day. Bookshop Day. October is clearly a month dedicated to bookworms which is perhaps how I managed to devote so much time to reading when I appeared to have so little time on my hands.
In the spirit of starting as you mean to go on, I’ve been rattling through the reads this month. It has helped slightly that I’ve had a holiday, a three hour flight to fill and then a week on the sofa under the weather – there was little else to do but read.
I think, even now, it’s fairly safe to assume that my Goodreads challenge for 2017 is obsolete. I didn’t think 35 books was particularly ambitious given recent years but it has been a bloody busy year. When I was delivering 10 Shared Reading groups a week it was quite easy to rack up an extra three or four books a year, and all the time spent on trains travelling to groups across the Wirral, I spent a great deal more time with book in hand.
